The Long View of Local and State Politics

OUR CIVIL RIGHTS

Our civil rights - yours and ours are an essential part of life in the United States. They extend from our Bill of Rights and Constitution at the Federal level, through the state level down to local communities we live in.

Our form of government is designed with a system of checks and balances. That system is specifically designed to provide each of us with mechanisms to keep our governments honest and accountable.

And yet we all know that left unattended, governments do sometimes go off track. The resulting distress and damages are compounded when governments are not held accountable. When all our systems of checks and balances turn a blind eye to mismanagement, the system fails miserably.

This blog is about our personal efforts over some 15 years to work within our civil rights and hold local and state jurisdictions accountable.

Meet The Cayers

Family, Community and Politics

My name is Richard Cayer. Everyone calls me Bicky. My wife Ann and I have been married 53 years and were high school sweethearts.

We have worked and lived in Madawaska our whole lives.

We raised three kids in the home we built ourselves. All of them are university graduates living in southern Maine today.

We are former employees of the local paper mill. We have also contributed to the local economic development by building and operating private businesses over the past 40 years.
